Wickannish, or Wick Beach as it’s known locally, continues on from Long Beach. This vast beach attracts all sorts of surfcraft, but even with the growing throngs of beachgoers it never seems crowded – and with miles of open sands, it probably never will. A little further south-east into the Pacific Rim National Park, Long Beach is Vancouver Island’s watersports capital. A super-fun spot to ride and jump waves in a smaller swell, but winds can often be light with huge surf that’s tough to handle for all but the most experienced. The waves can be twice as big just a few minutes south off the beautiful wide-open beach at Cox Bay. If winds are onshore at North Chesterman they can be perfect cross to cross-off at South Chestermans – a popular surfing beach, and particularly good for family groups wanting to rent a house right on the coast. On the tip of the Tofino peninsula, Chestermans Beach is divided by a long sandy point and island that make for great surf, dead-flat water and everything in-between depending on wind and swell directions. The whole area is bursting with places to ride, from bump-and-jump to full-on waves – best explored with a guide. Clay Hunter runs Tatchu Surf Adventures from Pebble Point, this rustic surf camp gets good wind from April to October. Just north of Clayoquot Sound, the hidden gem of Nootka Island is only accessible by boat or plane. Long summer days of sailing with almost no-one else out, but rains can hammer down so do check the forecast before going. Up amongst the mountains in the north of the Island, just west of Port Hardy, the remote Lake Nimpkish enjoys nuclear winds and a real taste of wilderness – plus the bonus of catching fresh fish right off the beach.

But that’s not to say the Pro headset is all bad. The lack of surround functionality in a headset which costs nearly $100 may be a deal breaker for a lot of PC gamers. The lack of customization with this headset, particularly in how sound is handled, makes the Pro moniker in this instance a real head-scratcher. Again, the similar G433 headset-albeit with a USB connection-can access the software for audio presets and equalization. While it’s likely not much of a surprise the analog Pro doesn’t use Logitech’s Game Software program, it’s no less a bummer. It’s very easy to position in just about any setup, which makes getting correct positioning for different users real easy, but the foam pop-filter really pushes that dorky air traffic controller vibe I mentioned earlier. The boom mic is very understated, design wise, with a bendable wire-like structure and a pop filter covering the end. The accident-proof design of the latter is nice, because errant mute button presses in the middle of an online game are extremely aggravating. A mid-cable control unit offers simple roll dial volume adjustment and there’s a slide on the back for muting the mic. But even then, the cable’s braided design seems plenty durable and the length is just about perfect for reaching a desktop tower without tons of extra cord. The cable on the Pro is removable from the headset, which could come in handy if you accidentally roll over it with your desk chair and need a replacement. Still, it’s nice to have the option to remove the pads and give them a clean-up, if needed. Logitech also includes a set of microfiber ear pads if that’s more your style, although I couldn’t notice any real difference between the two from a comfort or performance angle. As someone who wears glasses, this is generally my preferred style of headset and coupled with the lightweight build and soft leatherette ear pads on the Pro, I found them to be very comfortable even after a couple hours of continuous use. The cans on the Pro are an around-the-ear design. The previously mentioned Logitech G433 includes DTS Headphone: X 7.1 and actually costs a few bucks less than the Pro. There’s no virtual surround on this headset, and for a device aimed at competitive players that’s frankly very disappointing. The soft-touch surface feels nice and the understated looks do help if you want to wear the Pro around in public. There is, however, a steel band connecting the earcups, so that should soothe people's jitters over what appears to be an all-plastic headset. The overall shape of the two headsets is nearly identical, but the Pro ditches the mesh covering for a soft-touch finish on the exterior of the ear cups and a rather cheap-looking plastic headband. Apple Store employees are trained from day one to do what they have to do to make you happy. According to Gizmodo, “A fundamental part of their job-sans sales quotas of any kind-is simply to make you happy.” There’s no question about it. Apple employees get people excited about their technology by using it themselves. Apple Stores are also experimenting with an iPhone app that lets customers scan their own products and pay for them without ever speaking to a salesperson or visiting a cash register. Apple started EasyPay to “showcase the technology” and today it is being used by many other retailers. Employees check out customers on the sales floor with a mobile point-of-sale tool called EasyPay, attached to iOS devices. You can even request in-person help through the iPad.
